On Thursday, Obasa insisted that he remains the Speaker, despite his impeachment, and made a dramatic entrance into the Assembly complex accompanied by armed police officers. He argued that due process was not followed in his removal, making it invalid.

Reacting to the development, Igbokwe shared a news article on Facebook where Obasa denied being impeached. Expressing disbelief, he questioned the unfolding events at the Lagos Assembly.

He wrote:
“What is really happening in Lagos? What is happening in the Center of Excellence? Who is orchestrating this game of musical chairs? When elders are absent, children may wear snakes as necklaces. If you call your boat useless, children will turn it into a football. I am stunned beyond disbelief. Unless this is not the Lagos I know. Oro pe sije!!!”

Obasa was impeached in January while he was in the United States over allegations of misappropriation and misconduct. His deputy, Mojisola Meranda, was sworn in as the new Speaker and received the backing of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC).
