Dr. Ipuole, a member of the Faculty of Law, was abducted by armed individuals on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, in Calabar, the state capital. The incident occurred while he was attending an executive meeting of the Om’tuche Ayi’ala welfare initiative at State Housing, Ekong.

According to a source speaking to CrossRiverWatch, the assailants ambushed the victims, seizing their phones, ATM cards, and other valuables. While some captives, including Mr. Dominic Ogri, were later released, Dr. Ipuole remains in captivity.

An eyewitness described the harrowing ordeal, expressing frustration at the lack of intervention by security forces during the 30-minute hostage situation. The witness also noted instances where the abductors extorted money from passing motorists, highlighting concerns about security in the country.

SP Irene Ugbo, spokesperson for the command, confirmed the abduction on Thursday, May 23, assuring the public that law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to secure Dr. Ipuole’s release. She stated that collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS) is underway and expressed hope for a swift resolution to the situation.

The incident has sparked widespread concern, with authorities and the public alike urging swift action to ensure the safety of Dr. Ipuole and others affected by such criminal acts.
