The statement came after the PDP, on Monday, officially announced that its presidential ticket for the 2027 general election would go to the southern region of the country.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Olawepo-Hashim argued that the decision was nothing more than a “default campaign” for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.

He said: *“What has happened today is unprecedented. The PDP has never zoned its presidential ticket before. This means that if you are from the North, you may have to look for another party.

“The zoning of the presidency to the South is, in reality, a default campaign for the return of President Asiwaju. This is because those pushing for this zoning within the PDP are the same people who openly support Tinubu’s re-election.

“Almost all of them are saying, ‘Yes, we are in the PDP, but we are committed to President Asiwaju’s second term,’ while at the same time insisting on zoning the ticket.

“So, in the end, it is a calculated move to ensure the PDP has no strong or viable candidate to challenge him in 2027.”*
