What PDP Agreed Behind Closed Doors – Details From Explosive NEC Meeting Emerge
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, August 25, 2025, took a series of major decisions during its 102nd meeting.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Among the resolutions, the NEC ratified and confirmed Ambassador Iliya Umar Damagum as the substantive National Chairman of the party. It also reviewed preparations for the party’s forthcoming National Convention scheduled to hold on November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, and expressed satisfaction with the level of readiness across its organs, chapters, and structures.
A communique issued at the end of the meeting by PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, outlined the following key decisions:

Convention Preparations – NEC commended the level of preparedness for the November 2025 National Convention in Ibadan. It also acknowledged the commitment of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Board of Trustees (BoT), National Working Committee (NWC), National Assembly Caucus, and other bodies towards ensuring its success.

Zoning Arrangement – NEC approved the report of the National Convention Zoning Committee which resolved:

All PDP national offices currently held in the North will remain in the North.

All PDP national offices currently held in the South will remain in the South.

With the National Chairman retained in the North, the 2027 presidential ticket is zoned to the South.

Regions should immediately micro-zone positions internally for implementation.

Constitution Amendment – NEC received an update from the Constitution Amendment Committee and directed that the draft amendment be circulated across party organs and chapters for input.

Confirmation of National Chairman – NEC officially ratified Ambassador Iliya Umar Damagum as substantive National Chairman, effective Monday, August 25, 2025, until the November convention.

Criticism of APC – NEC strongly condemned the All Progressives Congress (APC) for what it described as state capture through intimidation, coercion, inducement, and violence in recent bye-elections. It particularly faulted the militarization of polls in Kaduna, Taraba, and Zamfara, calling it evidence of APC’s attempt to impose a one-party state.

Commitment to Democracy – NEC reassured Nigerians of PDP’s dedication to defending democracy, protecting citizens’ interests, and repositioning the party to reclaim power in 2027.
The next NEC meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
