US President Joe Biden Takes Action To Ban TikTok: What You Need to Know

President Joe Biden has officially enacted legislation aimed at prohibiting the popular social media platform TikTok. The law, previously endorsed by the U.S. Congress, mandates that ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company based in China, must sell the app within nine months or face expulsion from the U.S. market.

Biden’s signing of the bill, which was included in the $95 billion foreign aid package sanctioned by Congress this week to provide additional support to Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan, occurred on Wednesday.

In response, TikTok has declared its intention to contest the new law through legal channels. Alex Haurek, a spokesperson for TikTok, denounced the legislation as “unconstitutional” and asserted plans to challenge it in court.

This development echoes TikTok’s successful legal defense against former President Donald Trump’s 2020 executive order, which aimed to compel ByteDance to sell TikTok or face a ban on all U.S.-related transactions within 45 days.
