Expressing his concerns, Kanunta stated: “@Govhopeuzodinma is the one blocking the release of #MaziNnamdiKanu from DSS dungeon with a few of his friends in SE, and my question to @officialABAT is whether Gov Uzodinma is the president of Nigeria or if your government is benefiting from the insecurity in SE through your security chiefs?”

Kanu has been detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) based on the Nigerian government’s directives. He has been in custody since 2021 following his arrest in Kenya and subsequent extradition to Nigeria.

After his return to Nigeria, the appellate court had cleared the IPOB leader of all charges brought against him by the Nigerian government. However, the Supreme Court overturned the judgment and directed the Federal High Court to reexamine the trial.
