The Governor made this appeal during the funeral of the late Jenny Rachael Okonkwo, a former Imo APC Woman Leader for Orlu Zone, who was tragically murdered in 2022 by suspected hoodlums.
Addressing mourners at the deceased’s country home in Ogberuru, Orlu Local Government Area, Uzodinma condemned the brutal assassination of Okonkwo and four other women, describing her as a committed party member and a valuable asset to both the APC and Imo State.
“She was one of the best organizers and mobilizers in Orlu Local Government and Imo State at large. She worked tirelessly for the Party and the government, only to be assassinated by political opponents due to her unwavering commitment,” Uzodinma said.
To honor the deceased, the Governor announced a financial aid package of ₦10 million for each of the five bereaved families. He also pledged to offer employment opportunities to employable children of the victims or sponsor their training in skills or trades to secure their future.
Uzodinma expressed confidence that divine justice would soon befall those behind the political violence and killings in the area. He revealed that outsiders had been recruited by unscrupulous politicians to carry out these heinous acts, but added that the Orlu community is beginning to recognize the harm caused by such elements.
The Governor urged mourners and party faithful to remain steadfast and committed to the progress of the Party and the state, praying for the repose of the souls of the deceased. He reiterated the government’s determination to restore peace and end politically motivated violence in the region.
