Verbal War Explodes! Showunmi Destroys Reno Omokri’s Claims On Atiku’s New Role
A recent claim by former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has sparked fresh tensions within the opposition, after Segun Showunmi, who served as Atiku Abubakar’s spokesperson during the 2019 presidential campaign, strongly refuted Omokri’s assertion that he hired him.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast aired on Monday night, June 23, 2025, Omokri claimed he played a direct role in recruiting Showunmi to Atiku’s media team.
“Atiku wanted me to be his spokesperson,” Omokri said. “I declined because I didn’t want to switch from being a presidential spokesperson to a campaign spokesperson. But I hired his media team, including Segun Showunmi. I interviewed him and set his salary.”
However, as the podcast episode made rounds on social media, Showunmi responded sharply via his (formerly Twitter) handle, where he quote-posted a user, Imran Muhammad, who had shared Omokri’s statement.
“It’s not worth wasting breath on this nonsense,” Showunmi fired back. “My friend Amina Jambo got Lulu Obaifo to encourage me to meet Waziri (Atiku). I asked my questions, visited Uyi Giwa Osagie, then got a call from OGD in Dubai, followed up in Abuja, and later aligned with Atiku. I met Dane Waters, Eta Uso, and Yemi Hilda along the way.”
He added:
“This young man [Reno] is delusional. The first time I even saw him was during a Defence of London ad shoot in Dubai. Believe Reno if you enjoy nonstop nonsense. He should be asked what the actual terms were and what role Atiku’s then Chief of Staff, the man from Maiduguri, played. Hire ke, hire ni!”
Showunmi also criticized Omokri’s past remarks:
“This is the same man who used to rant about drugs and the president—only to conveniently forget all that while now spewing more rubbish.”
