Showdown Looms: PDP Schedules NEC Meeting In Open Defiance Of INEC Directive
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed that it will go ahead with its scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, despite objections raised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement released on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the party reaffirmed that the 100th NEC meeting will take place on Monday, June 30, 2025, as previously agreed. Ologunagba urged all duly accredited NEC members to attend the meeting by 1:00 p.m. at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja.
“The National Executive Committee (NEC) of our great Party, at its 99th meeting held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, unanimously resolved to convene the 100th NEC meeting on Monday, June 30, 2025.
“All constitutionally accredited members are hereby reminded of the scheduled meeting as follows:
Date: Monday, June 30, 2025
Time: 1:00 p.m.
Venue: PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Plot 1970, Michael Okpara Street, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja,” the statement read.
This reaffirmation from the PDP comes after INEC expressed concern over the party’s planned NEC meeting, stating that the notice provided did not meet the legal requirements stipulated in the 2022 Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties.
In a letter dated June 13, 2025, addressed to the PDP National Chairman and referenced INEC/DEPM/PDP/286/iii/80, the electoral body said the notice was invalid because it was not jointly signed by the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary, as required under Part 2(12)3 of the guidelines.
Meanwhile, as internal conflicts within the PDP intensify—especially regarding the contested position of National Secretary—the upcoming NEC meeting and the party’s faceoff with INEC are expected to take center stage. PDP governors are also scheduled to meet with INEC officials today at 2:00 p.m. at the commission’s conference hall in Abuja, following a formal invitation signed by INEC’s Acting Secretary, Halliru Aminu, dated June 18.
