But just weeks into his stint, the headlines have focused less on his football and more on his social media antics.
According to German outlet EXPRESS, “Boniface has stirred up trouble at Werder Bremen. The cause? Bizarre social media posts. Now the striker has been summoned by the club’s hierarchy.”
Among his recent updates, he posted a photo of a smashed car mirror on Snapchat and later dropped a cryptic Instagram caption. What really drew attention, however, was a lengthy post advising young men on relationships.
“If you spend too much money on women, you won’t achieve anything in life. Get yourself one or two women and settle down. At most three women—or if life is tough, four is also okay,” he wrote.
While Boniface may have intended it as humour familiar to fans in Nigeria, the tone didn’t sit well with his German employers.
Citing EXPRESS, BILD reported: “The meaning behind the posts remains unclear. Neither Boniface nor Werder Bremen has commented, but the management plans to address the matter internally and has called him in for a meeting.”
The posts also gained international traction. Canadian rapper Drake reacted with a laughing emoji, prompting Boniface to cheekily ask the superstar for private advice—much to the amusement of fans.
Still, not everyone was impressed. When a critic slammed him as unprofessional and warned he was sabotaging his own career, Boniface hit back by mocking her wig. The clapback quickly went viral, dividing opinion on whether he should brush off critics or engage them directly.
The storm comes as Boniface is still struggling to establish himself in the Bundesliga. His career has already faced setbacks, including a failed AC Milan medical due to recurring knee problems.
So far at Bremen, he has featured for just 45 minutes across two games—providing an assist in a 4-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach before appearing in a 3-0 loss to Freiburg.
Head coach Horst Steffen has voiced concern about the striker’s positioning:
“He moved around too much. He should be more central. It wasn’t what I wanted,” Steffen told EXPRESS. Still, the coach praised his energy in training and backed him to bounce back ahead of Friday’s clash with Bayern Munich.
