Victor Muñoz To The Rescue! Liverpool Snatch Dramatic Result Against Nottingham Forest

Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw by Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday, with Victor Muñoz scoring late on his full debut to rescue a point for the hosts.

Forest deservedly took the lead in the 24th minute when Dan Ndoye converted Morgan Gibbs-White’s pass. A long ball caught Liverpool’s defence off guard, allowing Ndoye to race through and beat goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Liverpool struggled to break down Forest’s organised defence and thought they had equalised through Florian Wirtz, but the effort was ruled out for offside.

Forest nearly doubled their advantage before half-time, but Alisson produced an important save to divert Igor Jesus’ effort onto the crossbar.

Liverpool came out with greater urgency after the break and levelled in the 60th minute. Cody Gakpo created room before sending a low cross into the box, allowing Alexander Isak to finish from close range into an empty net.

The hosts appeared to be gaining momentum, but Forest restored their lead just 10 minutes later.

Alisson rushed out to challenge Neco Williams after a quick throw-in involving Liam Delap and was adjudged to have brought down the Forest wing-back inside the area.

Despite strong protests from Liverpool’s players, referee Samuel Barrott awarded a penalty. Gibbs-White kept his composure and sent Alisson the wrong way to put Forest back in front.

Liverpool continued to push for another equaliser and finally got their reward in the 82nd minute.

Muñoz connected with Wirtz’s pass and unleashed a powerful effort that struck the underside of the crossbar before crossing the line to make it 2-2.

The Reds pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but Forest defended resolutely to secure a valuable point at Anfield.

The draw means Liverpool are still waiting for their first Premier League victory under Andoni Iraola after sharing the points in their opening two matches. They had also drawn with Newcastle United in their first league fixture of the season.

For Forest, the result represented a strong response to their opening-day defeat to Leeds United. However, they missed the opportunity to claim a third consecutive Premier League victory at Anfield.
