APC Counsel Explains Why Tribunal Sacked Kano State Governor Abba Kabir, Declared Nasiru Gawuna Winner

A recent decision by the tribunal court in Kano has ignited widespread debate and controversy. In its ruling, the tribunal upheld the petition filed by Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressive Congress (APC) against Governor Abba Kabir of the NNPP. Following the court’s decision, Kabir, who was the sitting governor, was disqualified, leading to the declaration of Gawuna as the winner of the gubernatorial race.

This unexpected turn of events has been a topic of hot discussion among Nigerians. As arguments and opinions continue to flood the public space, the counsel for the APC provided an in-depth explanation for the court’s ruling in favor of Gawuna.

Stating he said: “The Declaration by the returning officer was wrongly made, we filled this petition to show that and clearly, we have demonstrated that by bringing invalid ballot papers, one hundred and sixty-five thousand of the ballot papers, and the court went through the ballot papers one after the other to confirm that these ballot papers were not signed, stamped and dated. The laws say it shall be stamped, signed, and dated, so all these three must be there not two, not one but all three must be there and the court deducted these invalid votes from NNPP after doing that Nasiru Gawuna was declared the winner.”
