Following the court’s decision, Kabir, who was the sitting governor, was disqualified, leading to the declaration of Gawuna as the winner of the gubernatorial race.

Stating he said: “The Declaration by the returning officer was wrongly made, we filled this petition to show that and clearly, we have demonstrated that by bringing invalid ballot papers, one hundred and sixty-five thousand of the ballot papers, and the court went through the ballot papers one after the other to confirm that these ballot papers were not signed, stamped and dated. The laws say it shall be stamped, signed, and dated, so all these three must be there not two, not one but all three must be there and the court deducted these invalid votes from NNPP after doing that Nasiru Gawuna was declared the winner.”
