The spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has responded to a widely circulated video depicting a police officer assaulting a woman within the Edo state police command.

In the footage shared by activist Harrison Gwamnishu, the officer is seen slapping a woman who confronted him after allegedly making ominous statements about her father. Gwamnishu, in his post, highlighted the officer’s arrogance, asserting, “Nothing is going to happen… I will send you to the hospital, and I will admit you,” all while claiming that his superiors were witnessing the incident.

The incident occurred at the Ekpoma Divisional Police Headquarters in EDO State, as disclosed by Gwamnishu, who tagged relevant authorities, including @Princemoye1, @PoliceNG_CRU, and @PoliceNG, urging them to investigate and ensure justice for the victim. He emphasized the lack of justification for the woman’s arrest, as no petition or statement was reportedly taken.

In response to the video, Adejobi urged the Public Relations Officer of the Edo state police command to thoroughly investigate the incident and take appropriate action. He emphasized that police officers are not trained to resort to violence against civilians.

The headline for this incident could be: “Nigeria Police Force Vows Action Against Officer in Viral Video Assaulting Woman at Edo State Command Headquarters.
