A five-story building under construction collapsed on Basden Street, Fegge, in Onitsha, Anambra State, potentially trapping several individuals. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, March 10. The building, intended for commercial use, collapsed while some construction workers were on the top floor. Rescue operations, including the use of an excavator, are underway. The Chairman of the Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Chike Mmaduekwe, confirmed that the approved plan was for a three-story building, but the developer proceeded to construct a five-story building against regulations. This comes shortly after another building collapse in the Oduigbo section of the Ochanja market in Onitsha.
