Vigilante Incident: Enugu Restaurant Owner Fatally Shot (Video Footage)

A tragic incident occurred in Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, where a beloved restaurant owner, Mr. Ugwu Ofor, known affectionately as Ofor Onye Ofe Olubu, was fatally shot by a member of the Neighborhood Watch on the night of April 15, 2024, at Ogrute Roundabout.

Footage circulating on social media depicted a security vehicle from the Neighborhood Watch consumed by flames, allegedly set ablaze by furious youths in response to Ofor’s untimely death. Eyewitnesses recounted that the security personnel had attempted to apprehend an individual at Ofor’s establishment, encountering resistance in the process.

This resistance escalated into a confrontation between Ofor and the security operatives, culminating in Ofor being shot in the back by one of them. Subsequently, the security personnel fled the scene, leaving their vehicle behind, which was later set alight by enraged locals.

Despite efforts to save him, Ofor succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at St. Mary’s Hospital Ogrute in the early hours of April 16. Daniel Ndukwe, spokesperson for the State Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation into Ofor’s murder was underway.
