The attack follows a recent military operation by the Nigerian Armyās Joint Task Force, South East Operation, code-named Operation Udo Ka, which destroyed a suspected gunmenās camp in Umuchima earlier this week.
Fearing further violence, many residents of the village have fled to neighboring communities, taking only essential belongings with them. āWe didnāt want to risk becoming victims,ā one villager explained. āThe gunmen stormed the village in a commando-style operation and killed the man they accused of being an informant.ā
DAILY POST previously reported a clash between troops from the Nigerian Armyās 14 Brigade in Ohafia and unidentified gunmen in Umuchima. The military, deploying over 15 Hilux vehicles and armored personnel carriers, arrived at the village around 6 a.m. and targeted suspected gunmen believed to be camped near a river marking the boundary between Abia State and the Mbaise area of Imo State.
This latest incident comes amid ongoing efforts by the Abia State Government and security agencies to eliminate the gunmen responsible for a series of attacks on security personnel across the region. Despite these efforts, the gunmen continue to terrorize the area, leaving residents fearful for their safety.
