Violence And Protests Break Out In Rivers Over LG Chairmen ResumptionThe political unrest in Rivers State escalated on Monday as fresh explosions and protests hit several local government areas. The latest incident follows an order from the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, directing the unsealing of the 23 LG secretariats and the immediate withdrawal of police officers who had occupied the councils since July.

In Eleme LGA, the secretariat was engulfed in flames, with buildings and vehicles set on fire after an explosion, reportedly from a dynamite-like device.

In Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, protesters stormed the council headquarters in Omoku, preventing the newly sworn-in chairman from assuming office.
