However, calm was restored, and the primaries resumed around 1:00 PM, according to party sources who spoke with Vanguard. It was reported that thugs, allegedly associated with an aspirant from Anambra South, blocked the venue’s entrance, allowing only delegates supporting their candidate to enter, despite the presence of security forces.
In response to the unrest, the police deployed tear gas to disperse the crowd and regain control. The situation improved when aspirant Professor Obiora Okonkwo arrived at the scene. After discussions with security personnel, the gate was reopened, permitting delegates to enter and allowing the primaries to continue.
Delegates who had initially fled the venue due to the chaos began to return for accreditation, enabling the process to move forward.
In related news, one of the top aspirants, Paul Chukwuma, resigned from the APC just before the primaries, citing alleged manipulation of the process in favor of another candidate. Additionally, another aspirant, Chukwuma Umeoji, withdrew from the race
