Viral Video: Police Officer Allegedly Threatens UK Returnee, Makes Ethnic Remark During Stop

A viral video showing officers of the Nigeria Police Force allegedly demanding money from a United Kingdom returnee along the Lagos-Sagamu Expressway has sparked widespread reactions on social media.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In the footage, one of the officers is seen questioning the motorist about the ownership of the vehicle before allegedly requesting money from him.

Responding, the traveller identified himself as the owner of the vehicle and said he had recently returned from the United Kingdom.

“I came from the UK, and I am the owner. I don’t have anything, Oga. If I have, I would have given you,” the motorist said.

The officer, however, appeared unimpressed, replying, “Go and do better thing.”

The situation escalated after the driver declined to give the officers any money, leading to a heated exchange at the checkpoint.

During the encounter, one of the officers allegedly made an ethnic remark, telling the motorist that he was fortunate not to be Igbo or from “other” groups, otherwise he would have been taken to the police station and detained.

“I just want to see how you are going to behave. If you are another person, Igbo or others, I will just carry you go (to the station). If you don’t have anything, go and park,” the officer was heard saying in the video.

The motorist then requested the return of his driver’s licence, asking, “Then can I have my driving licence? Wetin I do na?”

The video has since generated widespread criticism online, with many Nigerians calling on the Nigeria Police Force to investigate the incident and take appropriate disciplinary action if the allegations are substantiated.
