Speaking during an interview on ARISE News, Ulasi acknowledged that Wike, like every Nigerian citizen, has the constitutional right to support any candidate of his choice. However, he argued that making such an endorsement while occupying a prominent position in the opposition party sends the wrong message to PDP members and supporters.
According to Ulasi, Wike could have waited until the election season before openly declaring his preferred candidate and explaining the reasons behind his decision.
He maintained that although no one can deny the FCT minister his right to back President Tinubu, doing so as a leading figure in the PDP is discouraging to party faithful who are expected to unite behind the opposition in future elections.
“I did say it was wrong for the FCT minister, being the national leader of the PDP, to prematurely declare four months ago for Tinubu, even though he is serving under his government,” Ulasi said.
Ulasi’s comments come amid continued debate over Wike’s close working relationship with the Tinubu administration despite his status as one of the PDP’s most influential figures.
