According to reports, the individual surrendered to the Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC’s Benin Zonal Command, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACEI Effam Okim, on Monday, April 8, 2025.

The 28-year-old suspect, a native of Oredo Local Government Area in Edo State, revealed that his decision was driven by a desire to abandon his fraudulent lifestyle and embrace a new path.

“I came forward because I want to quit and change my ways,” he confessed.

Before surrendering, the suspect specialized in romance scams—a form of cybercrime where emotional manipulation is used to defraud unsuspecting victims.

“In my schemes, I pretend to be a Chinese medical doctor working in a conflict zone. I target foreigners and initiate online relationships with them. I use a mobile translator app to communicate in Chinese and flatter them with romantic messages,” the EFCC quoted him as saying.
