Gbamila made the allegation in response to comments reportedly made by Olawoye at an APC stakeholders’ meeting in Akure on Friday, where the commissioner allegedly criticised the governor’s media aides for failing to adequately highlight projects under his ministry.
In a video that has since gone viral, Gbamila claimed that Olawoye has remained largely inaccessible since assuming office, making it difficult for the media team to carry out its responsibilities.
“We genuinely do not understand Olawoye’s persistent attacks on the governor’s media aides,” he said. “Even during the period when we were all working tirelessly to ensure Aiyedatiwa emerged as governor, Olawoye was nowhere to be found. Yet, when he was appointed commissioner, we welcomed and celebrated him without any resentment.”
According to Gbamila, it is Olawoye who has consistently hindered efforts to showcase the governor’s projects to the public.
“When the Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, appointed me chairman of a committee to identify and publicise the governor’s projects, Olawoye repeatedly blocked our access to project sites,” he explained. “There is no way to promote Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s achievements without engaging the Ministry of Infrastructure, yet all our attempts to reach him—calls and messages, including those from the CPS—were ignored.”
Gbamila further alleged that both Olawoye and the Commissioner for Finance have worked against the media unit, insisting that their actions are harming the administration.
“You and the Commissioner for Finance have waged a campaign against the media aides. In fact, you are the ones running Aiyedatiwa’s government down,” he said. “For nearly nine months now, the Commissioner for Finance has refused to release running grants for the media unit. We have endured this quietly, yet we are constantly blamed for problems caused by your actions.”
He added that the Chief Press Secretary has repeatedly intervened to prevent the situation from escalating, often sourcing funds elsewhere to keep operations running.
“The CPS has been restraining us from speaking out, assuring us that the issues would be resolved. Many times, he has had to use his personal influence to secure funds to get the job done because the Finance Commissioner has withheld grants from his office over minor issues,” Gbamila stated.
