On Friday, two women, Alice Odey, 27, and Blessing Onagbulum, 39, residing in New Nyanya, Karu, Nasarawa State, were brought before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in New Karu. They were accused of engaging in a physical altercation and causing harm to each other on February 14……..CONTINUE READING
The charges leveled against them included breach of public peace, defamation of character, and causing harm. Despite the allegations, both defendants, Odey and Onagbulum, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The court was informed by the prosecutor, Inspector Shehu Ndam, that the defendants were apprehended on February 14 after a violent confrontation resulted in injuries. The dispute arose from Onagbulum accusing Odey of snatching her former husband, and in retaliation, Odey accused Onagbulum of using ‘juju’ to harm her former husband’s private parts. This exchange escalated into a physical altercation, during which Odey used a broken bottle to stab Onagbulum in the head, jaw, and neck. Additionally, Onagbulum’s 16-year-old daughter intervened, striking Odey in the eye with a stone.
The prosecutor cited violations of sections 113, 139, and 245 of the Penal Code in relation to the incident.
Judge Godiya Bawa granted bail to the defendants, setting the sum at N100,000 each, with one surety each required to provide an equivalent amount. The case was adjourned until March 15 for further proceedings.
