In a poignant interview with Guardian, two women expressed profound sorrow over the escalating cost of essentials. One of the women, who disclosed her support for President Tinubu during the 2023 elections, lamented, “President Bola Tinubu, we all placed our hopes in you. We believed you would extend a helping hand. We are starving! Look at me, burdened with this load on my head, having trekked a long distance. The money I have is insufficient for the fare to my destination. Please have mercy on the poor. We, the masses, rallied behind you at the polls. I voted for you, hoping for change. In another heartfelt plea, a different woman emphasized the dire situation, exclaiming, “We are famished! A tin of rice now costs N1,200, and a five-liter bottle of vegetable oil is priced at N7,000. Tinubu, is this acceptable? Everything has become exorbitant. We are famished. Have compassion for the downtrodden. Show us mercy, so we do not perish from hunger. Spare us from suffering.”
