We Got It Wrong With Atiku” – PDP’s Abba Moro Reveals Why Power Must Shift South In 2027
Senate Minority Leader and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Senator Abba Moro, has admitted that the party made a grave mistake by fielding former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Moro explained that in a bid to wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the PDP abandoned its zoning principle and opted to throw the contest open, believing it would allow the “best candidate” to emerge. However, he said the decision backfired as many Nigerians rejected the idea of another northerner succeeding former President Muhammadu Buhari, who had just completed an eight-year tenure.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Moro said:
“In 2022, the PDP threw open the zoning arrangement to put its best foot forward. Unfortunately, that decision backfired because Nigerians resisted the idea of a northern candidate taking over from a northern president. That contributed significantly to our defeat in 2023.”
The lawmaker stressed that, following that painful experience, the PDP has resolved to align with the will of Nigerians by zoning its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.
“This time, in the spirit of unity, fairness, and justice, PDP leaders have reviewed the situation and agreed that we made a mistake in 2023 by fielding a northern candidate. We have decided to correct that by moving the ticket southward, where Nigerians believe it should have been. The people spoke, and clearly, it was an error on our part.
“We lost a monumental election in a disastrous manner, but we have learned from it,” he stated.
His remarks come just days after the PDP officially announced that its 2027 presidential ticket will be zoned to the South.
