We Were On Our Own — APC NWC Member Speaks On Alleged Presidential Influence In Primaries
A member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports suggesting that President Bola Tinubu intervened in the crisis surrounding the party’s recent primaries.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking to Punch, the party official described the claims as unfounded, insisting that neither President Tinubu nor any representative from the Presidency had contacted APC national leadership regarding a review of the primary election outcomes.
He argued that if the President intended to intervene in the process, such action would have taken place before the primaries were conducted.
Addressing the controversies surrounding the APC primaries in Lagos State, the NWC member maintained that all candidates who emerged from the exercise remain valid and have been confirmed by the party.
He added that their names are already prepared for submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.
According to him, “Anyone who emerged in the Lagos primaries has emerged. Was the President not aware of any issues before the process concluded? The Lagos results remain intact. Nothing has changed, and nothing will change.
“Generally, we are not considering any review of the primary results. Perhaps less than two per cent of the petitions filed by aggrieved aspirants were successful. Therefore, there is no alteration to the results on our part.”
When contacted, the APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, declined to comment, describing the matter as an internal party affair that could not be discussed publicly.
