Speaking through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr. Umar Musa Ikhilor, at the 2025 Edo Youth Impact Forum (EYIF) themed “Empowered Youths, Transformed Future”, the governor said the government has created a supportive and growth-oriented environment for young people. The forum was held on Wednesday at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub, Airport Road, Benin City.
“As a government, we’re deeply invested in youth empowerment,” he stated. “We’re not only giving our young people the tools they need but also cultivating the right environment for them to thrive.”
Governor Okpebholo emphasized that the event is a reflection of his administration’s SHINE agenda and a stepping stone to greater opportunities for Edo youths.
“Our government, through the Edo State Skills Development Agency, has trained thousands of youths in various fields. We’ve also rolled out an interest-free loan program to support youth-led enterprises and stimulate wealth creation. The first tranche of the N1 billion loan is already being disbursed.”
He praised the forum’s guest speakers and masterclass facilitators for sharing their knowledge and inspiring the youths to contribute meaningfully to society.
“Today is a day to inspire dreams that will shape the future,” he added. “We’re already seeing results from those who’ve gone through our skills agency and are making impactful strides.”
The governor urged young people to keep pushing their ideas and remain steadfast in their ambitions, noting they could become transformational figures for the state, the country, and the world.
Edesili Anani Okpebholo, the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, also reiterated the government’s unwavering support for youth development. She encouraged young people to discover their talents and take control of their future while avoiding social vices like cultism, rape, and fraud.
In a goodwill message, APC National Youth Leader, Dayo Israel, encouraged youths to stay focused, resilient, and courageous. He pointed out that Africa’s youth population presents a massive opportunity that governments must harness for national growth.
Other dignitaries at the event included the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu; Commissioner for Education, Paddy Iyamu; Commissioner for Mining, Oil, and Gas, Andrew Ijegbai; members of the Edo State House of Assembly; permanent secretaries; and heads of agencies, among others.
