The 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has claimed that there was an alleged plot to assassinate him during a planned visit to Benue State in April 2025.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Obi made the allegation while speaking at the ongoing high-level roundtable discussion titled “Nigeria in 2027 and Beyond,” organised by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) in Berlin, Germany.

The former Anambra State governor explained that his intended humanitarian visit to Benue was eventually cancelled after the state government issued a public advisory urging him not to proceed with the trip.

According to Obi, the events surrounding the proposed visit convinced him that there had been an attempt on his life. He questioned why some Nigerians continued to doubt his claims despite what he described as the circumstances that unfolded before and during the planned visit.

“You are aware that I wanted to visit Benue, and the governor publicly said I should not come. You also know that when I attempted the visit, there was a shootout. There were plans to assassinate me,” Obi said.

He added, “What more evidence do people need? Must someone lose their life before they believe such a claim? There was already a shootout when I tried to go there. After I was told not to come, what else do you expect me to say about the attempt on my life?”

Obi maintained that he was disappointed by the way the Benue State Government handled the situation, insisting that the developments surrounding the cancelled visit raised serious concerns about his safety.
