Lamido had demanded that the PDP address its ongoing internal crisis, including nullifying the national convention held in Ibadan and overturning its decisions.
However, Sani, Special Assistant to the National Chairman Tanimu Turaki, told the BBC that Lamido should set aside grievances and cooperate with the current leadership.
He argued that it is unbecoming for Lamido—an elder statesman and key architect of the party’s growth—to demand its disintegration. Sani stressed that the demands of Lamido and his allies are unattainable and that the party’s position is final.
“Right now, what our party, the PDP, needs is unity. All disputes should be set aside so we can move forward. What Sule Lamido and others are asking is impossible. Everything that needed to be done has already been done, so there is no going back,” Sani said.
He also noted that the National Chairman had attempted to meet with Lamido to resolve the misunderstanding, but the effort was unsuccessful, leaving no further room for discussion.
Meanwhile, PDP Chairman in Jigawa State and Lamido loyalist, Babandi Ibrahim Gumel, told the BBC that there were clear breaches of party rules in the emergence of the new leadership.
He stated, “The tenure of the Damagum-led PDP executives has not expired, nor have they resigned. How can others suddenly declare themselves leaders? According to party regulations, their tenure ends on December 8, 2025. Until then, the PDP has no vacancy in leadership.”
