According to details Obi shared on his X account, the two leaders held a closed-door meeting on Thursday. Sources familiar with the engagement told Daily Trust that it was a continuation of earlier discussions between Jonathan and Obi over possible coalition strategies for 2027.

One insider revealed that both men acknowledge they share the same political base, and if they contest separately, President Bola Tinubu could easily secure re-election. While the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been wooing Jonathan to return as its flagbearer, he is said to be cautious due to the party’s lingering internal crisis. Meanwhile, Obi’s camp has reportedly raised concerns about being sidelined in a coalition they helped shape, insisting that the structure must not be skewed in favor of another aspirant.
