An APC source, speaking to Daily Trust, revealed that there have been no official discussions or consultations involving the governor or his close associates regarding a possible defection. The source described the claims as mere speculation.
When contacted, the Bauchi State APC Chairman, Muhammad Hassan Tilde, stated that such political moves are typically initiated at the national level.
“You know defections of this nature usually begin from the national level. It is better to reach out to our national stakeholders for clarification. At the state level, we have not received any communication on this matter and are still awaiting updates from either the party’s headquarters or the governor himself,” he said.
Another source disclosed that Governor Mohammed is currently more focused on safeguarding the interests of his loyal supporters than on his personal political future.
According to the source, while the governor may be able to navigate his political path independently, he is concerned about ensuring that those who have supported him are not left behind, hence his efforts to secure their interests.
Although Mohammed currently serves as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, speculation about a possible defection has persisted amid internal challenges within the party.
He has, however, remained actively involved in efforts to strengthen the PDP and played a key role in organising the party’s national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, in November 2025.
