Shuaib made the announcement in Lafia after consultations with his supporters and major political stakeholders across the state. He said the decision followed extensive discussions and was in line with his commitment to abide by the choice of Governor Abdullahi Sule.
According to him, stepping down was a difficult decision, but he chose to honour his earlier pledge and support the candidate endorsed by the governor. He explained that governorship aspirants from the western zone had previously agreed to either unite behind one candidate or accept the governor’s decision if consensus proved impossible. With no agreement reached, they opted to follow the governor’s direction.
Shuaib acknowledged that the outcome may not satisfy everyone involved, but stressed that respecting the agreement was more important than pursuing personal ambition. He also praised the dedication and loyalty of his supporters, describing the period leading to his withdrawal as one of the toughest moments in his political career.
He urged his supporters to remain united and rally behind the party’s candidate in the upcoming election, while pledging to work closely with Wadada and promote cohesion within the party ahead of the polls.
Shuaib added that withdrawing from the governorship race does not mark an end to his public service, maintaining that he remains committed to the development of Nasarawa State and Nigeria.
