Why I May Or May Not Leave PDP — Suswam Drops Bombshell On Political Future

Former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, has refuted claims that he intends to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement issued on Friday by his media aide, Bede Bartholomew, Suswam dismissed the reports as “baseless, senseless, and a lie from the deepest pit of hell.”

The speculation emerged after Governor Hyacinth Alia invited prominent stakeholders in the state to a dinner at the Government House, Makurdi, which some online platforms claimed was arranged to officially welcome Suswam into the APC.

However, Bartholomew clarified that the event had no political motive, explaining that his principal merely honoured a formal invitation extended by the governor.

“Two days ago, Governor Alia courteously invited Suswam and other stakeholders to a state banquet scheduled for October 10, 2025. As a former governor, Suswam remains a stakeholder in the Benue project, hence his decision to attend,” the aide stated.

He emphasised that there was nothing in the invitation to suggest it was a political rally or defection ceremony.

“Earlier today, I received several calls from concerned Benue citizens alerting me to fake reports claiming that the former governor had joined the APC and would be formally received by Governor Alia at the banquet hall this evening.

“I categorically deny this falsehood — it does not reflect Suswam’s current political position or that of his supporters,” Bartholomew asserted.

He further reassured PDP loyalists that Suswam remains fully committed to the party, urging them to disregard the rumours.

“The former governor urges his supporters and well-wishers to ignore this fabrication. It is a lie from the deepest pit of hell,” the statement concluded.
