The revered 95-year-old singer, affectionately known as “Gentleman,” died on Friday following a long battle with illness.

In a conversation with Vanguard, Emmanuel explained that the family chose to honour the late musician’s final wish—to be buried within 24 hours of his death.

He disclosed that the burial took place quietly on June 7 in Umuagba, Imezi-Owa, Enugu State, after the family held a meeting and unanimously agreed to respect the legendary artist’s request.

Emmanuel added that Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State was informed and gave his full support for the decision.

Plans are already in motion, he noted, for a formal funeral ceremony in October 2025, which will be jointly organised by the family and the Enugu State Government.

He also appealed to the Federal Government to honour his father with a posthumous award, lamenting that Mike Ejeagha received little recognition during his lifetime.

“My father made it clear he wanted to be laid to rest within 24 hours. We discussed it as a family, and even Governor Mbah agreed that his wish should be respected,” Emmanuel stated.
