Adewumi Basorun, the National President of the school’s Old Students Association, expressed these sentiments during a visit to an orphanage in the Apata community on Monday. This visit was part of the school’s Founder’s Day celebrations, culminating in a Gala Night on Thursday, chaired by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and other dignitaries also expected to attend.
During the visit, the alumni donated food items to the orphanage. Basorun emphasized Mrs. Are’s significant influence, stating, “We owe Mrs. Olabisi Are a debt of gratitude for shaping the lives of many generations who passed through ACGS during her tenure as principal. She was a visionary leader whose dedication positively impacted students, teachers, and parents alike.”
Dr. Abiola Oshodi, chairman of the organizing committee, reflected on the school’s early years in the 1980s, recalling the struggles students faced due to inadequate facilities. He praised their ability to excel academically and in extracurricular activities despite these challenges. “Despite the lack of basic amenities back then, we remained competitive in both academics and sports. Today, our alumni are excelling in various fields globally. This reunion is not just about supporting our alma mater but also about giving back to the community,” Oshodi remarked.
He underscored the importance of inspiring future generations to become visionary leaders and fostering a society free from crime and insecurity.
