The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports of a disagreement between him and Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, insisting that their relationship remains cordial and that they will continue to work together.

Wike made the clarification on Saturday during the funeral Mass of Dan Osi Orbih, a former South-South National Vice-Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), held in Ogbona, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State.

Addressing the reports of a possible rift, the FCT minister maintained that there was no misunderstanding between him and the governor, emphasising that they remained close and committed to working together.

Wike also commended Okpebholo for his support during the mourning period, particularly for receiving Orbih’s remains and visiting the deceased’s residence in Benin City to pay his respects.

Reflecting on the death of his close associate, Wike admitted that seeing the casket made the loss particularly difficult to bear. He urged Nigerians to pray for the bereaved family, noting that they needed strength and comfort to cope with the painful loss.

In his remarks, Governor Okpebholo expressed appreciation to Wike for standing by Orbih’s family during the difficult period. He also called on Nigerians, especially public office holders, to use their positions to serve others and make meaningful contributions to society.

The governor observed that Orbih’s death was a reminder of the uncertainty of life and the importance of making a positive impact while alive. He stressed that neither wealth nor political power could prevent the inevitability of death.

Delivering the homily at the funeral Mass, the Catholic Bishop of Auchi Diocese, Most Rev. Gabriel Dunia, urged the congregation to reflect on human mortality, noting that titles, academic qualifications, social status and personal achievements could not exempt anyone from death.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Wike’s remarks were aimed at dismissing speculation about a breakdown in his relationship with Okpebholo, while the funeral provided an opportunity for political associates, family members and other mourners to reflect on Orbih’s life and legacy.
