Wike Breaks Silence On Atiku As 2027 Battle Heats Up In Rivers

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that he would not remain passive and allow the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to win the 2027 presidential election.

Wike made the statement while responding to questions during his monthly media parley in Rivers State, where he explained that his frequent visits to the state were necessary to stay connected with residents and monitor political developments ahead of the election.

The former Rivers State governor also dismissed speculation that he was relocating from Abuja to Rivers State, describing his visits as an effort to remain in touch with his people and personally assess political activities in the state.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Wike said he could not afford to remain in Abuja and depend entirely on assurances from political associates that everything was progressing well in Rivers State.

He stressed that the current period was politically important and required close monitoring rather than relying solely on reports from others.

“It’s not about relocating, it’s about coming home to relate with the people and talk to them, and also do those things you know how to do very well, not to take chances,” Wike said.

He explained that his intention was not to permanently move back to the state but to maintain direct contact with his supporters and ensure that political activities were being properly coordinated.

“I’m not relocating. I don’t need to relocate, but I also have to be in touch with my people so that I don’t just sit in Abuja and then say that everything is going on there well,” he added.

Wike said he would continue to personally assess developments rather than depend on assurances from candidates and political associates operating from Abuja.

“I don’t want to sit in Abuja and candidates are saying, ‘Oh, don’t bother, everything is going on well’. I have to come home and see that all those things are going on. ‘Have you done this? Have you done this? What about this? What about this?’” he stated.

The FCT minister further noted that his parents were still alive and dismissed any suggestion that his visits to Rivers State were connected to a permanent relocation.

He maintained that the period was crucial for political engagement and made it clear that he intended to remain actively involved in the political process ahead of the 2027 election.

“You want me to fold my hands for Atiku Abubakar to come and win the election?” Wike asked.
