The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has debunked reports claiming that he was invited to testify in the ongoing terrorism trial of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Wike made the clarification on Friday during his monthly media briefing with journalists in Abuja.
Recall that Kanu had recently listed several prominent Nigerians as “compellable witnesses” in his trial before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja. Among those mentioned were former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami, former Minister of Defence Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, former Chief of Army Staff Gen. Tukur Buratai, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, and the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Reacting to his inclusion, Wike dismissed the report as unfounded, emphasizing that no court had issued him any summons.
He said:
“You don’t become a witness just by reading newspapers. Nobody has subpoenaed me. So if I see my name listed as a witness, should I start running helter-skelter? No, it doesn’t work that way. If I am formally summoned to appear or give evidence, I will obey the court.
“As for why my name was mentioned, that question should be directed to whoever listed me, not me.”
