Wike Expresses Confidence In Meeting May 29 Deadline For Abuja Rail Project

Wike, maintaining an optimistic outlook, stated, “I am not a pessimist, and I believe that if we put all our energy into it, we may achieve it. I have also disbursed the funds for access roads, so we have no excuse.”

The FCTA had earlier announced the award of a N5 billion contract for the rehabilitation of the ARMT system in August 2023. China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Ltd. (CCECC) was assigned the task, with a deadline of eight months for project completion.

Upon assuming office, Wike prioritized the ARMT as one of the projects to be commissioned on May 29, marking President Bola Tinubu’s one year in office. Expressing dissatisfaction with the project’s progress, Wike highlighted concerns about the persistent vandalization and theft of crucial facilities and equipment.

Expressing his commitment to addressing security issues, Wike disclosed, “This is one project that I am so compassionate about, and you know that Mr. President has given me a directive that must not be taken for granted.”

Wike expressed disappointment with security lapses at the metro station and revealed that the initially planned security measures had not been implemented. He was surprised to learn that the contract for the security measures had been awarded to a different contractor by the FCT. Wike pledged immediate action to rectify the situation, emphasizing the importance of addressing security concerns before focusing on operational aspects of the project.
