Wike Expresses Frustration Over Rising Out-Of-School Children In FCT
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has challenged the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to take decisive action against the rising number of out-of-school children in the country. During a meeting with a UBEC delegation led by Executive Secretary Hamid Bobboyi, Wike expressed his frustration over the alarming figures in the FCT.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Wike stated, “We are all aware of the issues surrounding not only girl child education but also the growing number of out-of-school children. It is UBEC’s responsibility to address these children who are roaming the streets.”

He reflected on past initiatives, including the establishment of Almajiri schools, and emphasized the need for continued efforts. “While we made progress in building schools and providing resources, the current situation is disheartening, with numbers having tripled. This is unacceptable.”

He acknowledged UBEC’s efforts but stressed that state governments must also fulfill their obligations, particularly in terms of counterpart funding. Wike highlighted the link between education and insecurity, noting, “The rising insecurity cannot be addressed without bringing these children back to school.”

Additionally, Wike pointed out that the influx of people into the FCT is exacerbating the issue, but reassured that the FCT Administration is committed to tackling the problem.
