Wike made this announcement on Wednesday when he welcomed former FCT legislators Philip Aduda and Zakari Angulu during a courtesy visit in Abuja. The minister specified that these roads should be completed by May 29, 2024.
The road construction initiative aims to decentralize and expand development from the city center into the rural communities within the area councils, according to Wike.
According to a quote from the FCTA magazine, Wike stated, “President Bola Tinubu has directed that at least five-kilometer roads must be constructed in each of the six Area Councils before May 29. This is part of his Renewed Hope Agenda to ensure that people in rural communities are not excluded from the development efforts of the current administration.”
Wike also mentioned that the FCT was removed from the treasury single account (TSA) to facilitate development in the capital city, with the ultimate goal of restoring hope among FCT residents.
Aduda expressed that their visit was to congratulate Wike on his appointment as the FCT minister and commend him for his commendable work. He further thanked Tinubu for appointing a local resident, Zephania Jisalo, as the minister of special duties and intergovernmental affairs. Aduda pledged their full support for the development of the FCT in the best interest of all.
“We are also here to commend you for the bold step in establishing the Civil Service Commission for FCT, removing FCT from TSA, and establishing the Women Affairs Secretariat to address women’s concerns,” added Aduda.
