Wike conveyed this message during a discussion with journalists in his Abuja office yesterday. He mentioned that a joint task force dedicated to combating cross-border crimes was established last week to address the security threat posed by “One-Chance” robberies.
In recent weeks, Abuja has been plagued by reported cases of “One-Chance” robberies and kidnappings, causing fear among residents. Criminals, disguised as commercial vehicle operators, have been targeting and robbing unsuspecting victims.
The minister attributed the surge in criminal activities in the capital city to the existence of illegal motor parks and incomplete buildings being used as hideouts by criminals.
“We are receiving numerous reports of kidnappings and ‘One-Chance’ incidents. In many instances, we do not make these efforts public. I can assure you that our security agencies have been working diligently. Otherwise, the state of affairs in the FCT would be quite different by now,” Wike stated.
