Wisdom Needed In Selection Of New Osun Monarch, Urges Advocacy GroupA non-governmental organization, the Kayode Michael Arimoro Foundation, has urged the kingmakers of Ijesha Land in Osun State, along with state and federal authorities, to approach the selection of a new Owa Obokun of Ijesha Land with wisdom and respect following the passing of the former Owa Obokun, Adekunle Aromolaran. The foundation emphasized the importance of a peaceful selection process to prevent discord and violence.

This appeal was made in a statement released on Saturday titled “Tribute to Owa Aromolaran and Call for a Peaceful Selection of the New Owa Obokun of Ijesha Land,” honoring the late monarch. Reports indicate that the first-class Osun monarch’s death was officially announced on September 12, 2024, by Chief Yinka Fasuyi, the Asiwaju of Ijesaland, in Osogbo, the state capital.

The statement read, “At The Kayode Michael Arimoro Foundation, dedicated to supporting widows, promoting girl child education, and advancing child education overall, we extend our condolences to our founder, Prince Kayode Michael Adewale Arimoro, and the people of Ijesha Land over the passing of Owa Obokun, Adekunle Aromolaran, a revered leader and custodian of tradition in Ijesha Land. We have closely followed the significant impact that the late Owa Obokun had on Ijesha Land, and we honor his exemplary service and unwavering commitment to peace and unity. His vision for the advancement of all Ijesha people and Nigerians will remain in the hearts of the community.

In light of this transition, our Foundation urges all stakeholders, including the state and federal governments and members of the Bilaro Ruling House, to conduct the selection of a new Owa Obokun with wisdom and reverence, in alignment with Ijesha Land’s historical traditions. The kingmakers must be allowed to fulfill their role in selecting a successor who possesses the vision, drive, exposure, and charisma to uphold the values and aspirations of the community.

Historically, the Owa Obokun throne has symbolized unity and strength. This tradition dates back to 1896 when Prince Farotimi Okunade, a.k.a. Arimoro, recommended a younger relative as Owa Obokun of Ijesha Land. Therefore, it is crucial to follow the principles of fair rotation within the Owa Bilaro family and ensure that the selection process reflects the collective spirit of our community, characterized by unity, courage, and enlightenment.

The NGO stressed the necessity of prioritizing dialogue in the selection process to foster a peaceful atmosphere during this critical time. “We urge every community member to engage in respectful discussions and demonstrate patience as Ijesha Land navigates this period of transition.

We call upon all stakeholders to unite in honoring the legacy of Owa Obokun Adekunle Aromolaran by selecting a new leader capable of guiding Ijesha sons and daughters toward a prosperous future. May the memory of Owa Aromolaran inspire all Ijeshans to work collectively for peace and understanding, ensuring a smooth transition after the Great Owa is given a dignified and memorable final farewell,” the statement concluded.
