Woman Faces Arrest For Stealing From Church To Aid Sick Mother

Woman Faces Arrest For Stealing From Church To Aid Sick MotherBridget Chiedza, a 24-year-old woman from Cowdray Park, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison after admitting to stealing money from Bethel Church.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Chiedza, a member of the congregation, confessed to taking US$118 and R431 from the church’s funds, citing financial difficulties and her mother’s illness as her motivations.
The theft occurred on August 4, 2024, when Chiedza was given the money by church secretary Prisca Moyo, following the pastor’s instructions. When the church later sought to reclaim the funds, Chiedza became unresponsive and even blocked church members who tried to reach her, prompting the church to report the incident to the police, which led to her arrest.
In court, Chiedza tearfully asked for leniency, explaining her mother’s health crisis had compelled her to make a desperate decision. “My mother was sick in the rural areas, and I needed money for her treatment,” she told Western Commonage magistrate Learnear Khumalo. Chiedza expressed remorse and offered to repay the stolen amount.
Considering her circumstances, the court issued a conditional sentence. While she was sentenced to 12 months in prison, three months were suspended on the condition that she remains crime-free for five years. An additional six months were suspended if she completes 210 hours of community service at Cowdray Park Health Services, and the remaining three months were suspended provided she repays the stolen funds by November 15, 2024.
