Work Has Started” — Fayose Speaks After Accepting Tinubu’s Appointment

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has been inaugurated as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).

The board was inaugurated in Abuja by the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, according to a statement issued on Friday by Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Fayose was inaugurated alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar, Mr Ilyasu Makinta and three other members and non-executive directors.

Mr Abba Aliyu was also inaugurated as the Managing Director of the agency.

Speaking after his inauguration, Fayose expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for appointing him and other members of the board.

He said his immediate priority would be to provide the political will needed to advance the agency’s programmes and ensure that adequate funding was available for their implementation.

Fayose pledged to work towards securing the resources required to execute the REA’s short- and long-term programmes and expand access to electricity across the country.

He said, “My mission in REA is to take the agency to greater heights by providing the needed political will.

“Work has started in earnest; we are reaching out very fast and appealing to people to ensure the work is done.”

The former governor also assured Nigerians that he and other board members would work diligently to deliver on the expectations surrounding their appointments and support the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration.

Fayose noted that many of Nigeria’s electricity challenges were concentrated at the grassroots, stressing that the REA’s responsibility went beyond simply supplying electricity.

According to him, the agency must also ensure that communities and the wider population feel the socioeconomic impact of improved access to energy.

He said the board would focus on addressing grassroots electricity challenges and expanding the benefits of energy access to more Nigerians.
