The Media Office of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has issued a strong criticism of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accusing the agency of carrying out a politically motivated “hatchet job” against him……CONTINUE READING
In a statement signed by Ohiare Michael, the office claims that the EFCC’s recent actions and public statements are driven by personal interests rather than a genuine commitment to fighting corruption. The statement argues that the EFCC’s handling of Bello’s case shows bias, suggesting that the agency’s motives are questionable.
This comes after the EFCC declared Bello wanted, drawing significant media attention. Although Bello reportedly appeared voluntarily at the EFCC headquarters, he was allowed to leave without charges, raising concerns about the agency’s true intentions. The statement questioned the EFCC’s seriousness about prosecution, asking, “If the EFCC was genuinely interested in pursuing a case, why wasn’t Bello detained that day?”
Bello’s media office has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step in, stressing that the fight against corruption must be fair and inclusive. The statement concluded with a plea for justice, saying, “Nigeria belongs to all Nigerians,” and calling for a balanced approach to governance and accountability.
