Yahaya Bello’s Court Appearance Postponed For The Second Time In Corruption CaseThe planned arraignment of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello on a new 19-count charge of money laundering involving ₦82 billion was once again delayed on Thursday. Sources within the court informed Daily Trust that the EFCC had not filed the required documents for the arraignment to proceed. Additionally, Justice Emeka Nwite had previously set January 21, 2025, as the new date to determine the arraignment, pending the outcome of a Supreme Court appeal related to the case. The judge had emphasized the need to resolve the appeal before continuing with the proceedings.
EFCC lawyers and security personnel had gathered at the court early Thursday in anticipation of the arraignment but began withdrawing around midday when it became clear the proceedings would not take place.
This delay marks another setback in the case, which has already faced multiple adjournments, largely due to the continued absence of the former governor. Bello, along with two former Kogi State officials, Abdulsalami Hudu and Umar Oricha, is accused of conspiring to use state funds to acquire properties in high-end areas within the Federal Capital Territory and Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with an estimated value of ₦110.4 billion.
