According to a statement released by the Deputy Governor’s Press Secretary, Hussaini, on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Ahmad suffered third-degree burns after accidentally pouring hot water on himself. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries at the University Teaching Hospital Damaturu in the early hours of the day.

The funeral prayer took place at the Deputy Governor’s residence, led by Chief Imam Ustas Hudu Mohammed Yusuf of the Yobe Mosque and Islamic Center Damaturu. Attendees included members of the state House of Assembly, the Secretary to the State Government, the Head of the Civil Service, and Emirs of Bade, Damaturu, and Jajere. Also present were various commissioners, special advisers, permanent secretaries, board and parastatal executives, local government chairmen, and thousands of sympathizers, including representatives of traditional rulers.

Special prayers for the deceased were offered by Ustas Babagana Mallan Kyari, the Deputy Governor’s Special Adviser on Religious Affairs, and Chief Imam Hudu, asking Allah to grant Ahmad Jannatul Firdausi.
