Abdulkarim clarified the situation, stating that no police officers were involved in any robbery in Potiskum or elsewhere in Yobe State. He explained that the incident reported by the online platform was a misunderstanding. On February 23, a traffic accident occurred involving a truck and a motorcycle in Potiskum. During the investigation, a correctional service officer, ASC Abubakar Umar, sought bail for the truck driver, which was granted. However, the police did not release the vehicle, as the victim was still undergoing treatment, and the case was under investigation for reckless driving.

This led to a confrontation, resulting in Umar’s arrest for obstruction. Abdulkarim emphasized that the Area Commander acted in accordance with proper procedure, directing that the case, which involved the enforcement of Fundamental Human Rights, be handled at a higher legal level.

The police also warned the news platform of potential legal action if the report was not retracted and an unreserved apology issued.
