You Get $5,000 — Trump Unveils Massive Cash Promise Ahead Of US Midterm Elections

US President Donald Trump has proposed paying $5,000 to every adult American citizen if Republicans retain control of Congress in the November midterm elections.

Trump unveiled the proposal, which he described as a “Trump dividend,” during the Republican Party’s midterm convention in Dallas, Texas, as the party campaigns to maintain its influence in Congress.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Trump did not provide detailed information on how the proposed payment would be administered or when eligible citizens would receive the money. He, however, stated that the initiative would be limited to US citizens and that recipients would be expected to spend the funds within the United States.

The president linked the proposed payment to what he described as America’s strong economic performance, presenting the dividend as a way of returning some of the country’s economic gains to its citizens.

Trump also compared the proposal with a $1,776 payment received by US military personnel in 2025. However, that payment was tied to a military housing allowance that had already been authorised by Congress and was not a newly created programme by Trump.

The proposed dividend could become one of the largest direct-payment programmes ever considered by the US government. With hundreds of millions of adults potentially eligible, estimates suggest the plan could cost more than $1 trillion.

The proposal has already raised questions over its funding and feasibility, particularly amid concerns about the country’s budget deficit and national debt. Texas Republican Congressman Chip Roy has expressed concerns about the financial implications of a programme that could carry a price tag exceeding $1 trillion.

Critics have also questioned whether the proposal could require congressional approval before it could be implemented. The White House has yet to provide a detailed framework explaining how the payment would be funded, administered or legally authorised.

Trump’s announcement comes ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, in which Republicans are seeking to retain control of Congress. The proposal has therefore attracted significant attention as the president attempts to rally voters behind the Republican Party and its candidates.
